“Most peoples lives are a direct reflection of their peer groups.”
-Anthony Robbins
When I was growing up I remember asking my mom “Who is your hero?” she replied “I don’t have one.” Having such an inquisitive mind I then asked “Why?” She replied, “I don’t need a hero.”
This questions was brought up because my school teacher asked us who our hero’s were. I couldn’t come up with one. I went home to get advise from mom, who didn’t help my cause.
What I got from that small conversation at such a naive age is that I need to stand on my own and be strong, I shouldn’t need anyone to look up too.
My philosophy is very different from my moms, and today I have taught my child to have many hero’s.
I also grew up with the notion that “testimonials” are bullshit. Especially when people are trying to sell you something.
Being young and well, believing everything mom says, I kept this philosophy for years, well into my adulthood. It never occurred to me what a true testimonial was until later in life. Education is power people.
It’s these types of occurrences that hold people back, it’s also the lack of knowledge. I now have a list of hero’s and shero’s to look up to and emulate. I now use those testimonials to enrich peoples lives and share stories to inspire.
Am I mad at my mom? No. I obviously needed to learn these lessons, why would I not want that? Personal experience is the best way to learn. To teach it to others perfects that skill.
So I will ask you, who are your heros and/or shero’s, and what testimonials will you share to empower others?
